Hitech Motorsport IRC round 1 report: Manfeild Park

Hitech Motorsport had a strong start to the 2010/11 IRC race series.

In Mazda Pro 7 plus, we had the top three cars in qualifying and all three races. Congratulations to Hitech Motorsport customers James Parker, Dean McMillan and Matt Lockwood. James qualified on pole and won all three races, Dean was second in all three races, and Matt was third in all three races. There was nothing between all three drivers, all weekend. It looks like James and Dean will be battling it out for the championship this season. Matt is not competing in all the rounds. James leads the championship, from Dean, then Matt in 3rd.

In SS2000, Phil Brown had an excellent start to his championship campaign, in qualifying Phil was still coming to grips with the new car, but managed a strong 7th. In race one he was as high as 5th, before a broken 6th gear synchro slowed his charge and he finished in 6th position. With the car repaired overnight, Phil was very fast on Sunday, scoring a 2nd and a 3rd placing in the two races. Phil now sits 3rd in the points heading into round 2 at Taupo over labour weekend. The newly rebuilt Corolla is showing excellent pace, and should get faster as Phil clocks up more time in it.

Also in SS2000, Hitech Motorsport had customers Ray Brown(Phil's Father) and Duncan Hedges(Phil's Brother) competing, Manfeild was Ray's first outing in his newly acquired Honda Civic, Ray has only just started motor racing, and is getting faster every time out. Duncan now has the Quaife 6 speed sequential gearbox fitted to his Datsun 1200 coupe, and after an up and down season last year, had some strong results at Manfeild.

Round 2 of the IRC series is at Taupo over Labour weekend.
